Boise has plenty of people who will keep your books, from one-person practices to accounting firms that also prepare tax returns. The hard part is telling them apart, because most websites use the same words: accurate, reliable, affordable.
This list sticks to what each firm states on its own website. We checked every site in September 2026 and noted where each firm is based, what it says it does, and anything worth asking about before you sign up. Nothing here is a rating, and none of the firms paid to be included.
If you want to see how we work before reading further, start with small business bookkeeping or how we work.

How to choose a Boise bookkeeper
Start with what you actually need each month. Most small businesses need transactions categorized, bank and card accounts reconciled, and a profit and loss statement and balance sheet they can read. Some also need payroll, bill pay, invoicing or job costing.
Then decide whether you want your bookkeeper and your tax preparer in the same firm. Some owners like one firm doing both. Others prefer a bookkeeper who keeps clean books and hands them to a separate tax adviser at year end.
Questions to ask before you hire
- Who will actually do my books each month, and who reviews them?
- Which software do you work in, and who owns the file if we part ways?
- When will I get my monthly reports, and will you walk me through them?
- What happens if my books are behind when we start?
- Do you prepare tax returns, or will you work with my tax adviser?
What monthly bookkeeping usually involves
A typical month includes categorizing every transaction, reconciling each bank and credit card account to its statement, reviewing receivables and payables, and producing month-end reports. Our monthly bookkeeping checklist walks through the steps, and bank feeds and reconciliation explains the part most do-it-yourself books skip.
