Who we keep books for

Treasure Valley businesses, and the books behind them

Shops, trades, studios and service businesses across Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Eagle and Caldwell — owner-run companies where the bookkeeping has to be right without a finance department to do it.

Fourteen trades have a page of their own, each on the part of the books that goes wrong first — see bookkeeping by industry.

Better processes, not just tidier books

Books usually get messy for a reason: receipts that never reach anyone, a bank feed nobody reviews, invoicing done three different ways. Recategorizing transactions fixes the symptom. Fixing the process fixes the cause.

Carey's background spans three decades of business, consulting, technology and systems work. That experience goes into practical, small-business-sized improvements:

  • A simple, reliable way to capture receipts and bills
  • A chart of accounts that matches how you actually think about the business
  • Month-end steps written down, so the books don't depend on memory
  • Reports built once and delivered the same way every month
  • Clear handoffs to your CPA at year end

Small business bookkeeping questions

What is the difference between QuickBooks cleanup and catch-up bookkeeping?

Cleanup fixes records that exist but are wrong: duplicates, miscategorized transactions, unreconciled accounts. Catch-up fills in periods where no bookkeeping was done. Many files need some of both, and the first step is always a review of the file to see which.

Do you work with small businesses as well as churches?

Yes. Small business bookkeeping includes monthly recording and reconciliation, financial reports, budgeting support, and help improving the financial processes behind the numbers.

Do you work with our CPA?

Yes, and we encourage it. Books are kept organized and reconciled so your CPA or outside reviewer can work from them efficiently. Tax preparation, audits and reviews remain with your CPA.

What services do you not provide?

Danielson Bookkeeping & Consulting does not provide tax preparation or tax planning, audits or reviews, legal advice, or investment or retirement advice. When you need those, we will coordinate with the CPA, attorney or adviser you choose.

How much does bookkeeping cost?

It depends on transaction volume, the number of accounts and funds, payroll, and how current the books are. After a consultation and a look at your records, you receive a written scope and quote before any work begins.
